hassle during the skiing holiday

A mess during the skiing holiday

It's that time of year again, when large masses of people start to slowly move from the settlements in the south towards the north of Finland. It's the first week of the skiing holiday season. This year in particular, Lapland is expected to be a popular destination, as for the first time in over fifty years, southern Finland will experience a snow-free winter.

On skiing holidays, people often stay in cabins, which are plentiful around ski resorts. In Lapland, you may encounter unexpected technical challenges that are not necessarily encountered in the south. Let me tell you a story about a problem encountered by a customer on a skiing holiday.

Last year, a family spent a skiing holiday in the pure winter scenery of Saariselkä. The plus weather of the early week had just turned to bitter frost. Waking up to a new morning, the father of the family went into the kitchen with the idea of frying the children omelettes, bacon and porridge for breakfast.

The scent of bacon began to spread to the nostrils of the still sleeping children and one by one they began to spill into the kitchenette with water on their tongues, waiting for breakfast. The father of the family took a kettle, put some oatmeal in it and was about to pour water into it from the tap. The tap made a strange noise and some water gushed out of it until the water supply stopped completely.

After a moment's thought, he realised that it was most probably the pipes freezing, as the change in the weather conditions also indicated that. The landlord of the cottage could not be reached. "What can we do now?" thought the father. He reasoned that it was best to deal with the problem as quickly as possible to avoid making matters worse. He called the first plumbing hotline number he found online.

24 Center received a call from the north. The customer was promised that the pipes would be thawed as quickly as possible. The customer service agent also suggested that the morning porridge could be cooked if water could be borrowed from a neighbour's cottage. This was done. The family ate breakfast as usual, and the skiing holiday continued with various activities. The plumber arrived within a couple of hours of the call and got the pipes melted. He also found the spot where the pipe had frozen due to the lack of insulation. All turned out well and the family's skiing holiday was saved.

Oh, and finally, a word of advice for all of us ski holidaymakers: if you have technical problems at home or in a rented cottage, let's take a leaf out of the family history book. You should not try to thaw frozen pipes at home, as there is a risk that the pipes will burst and water damage will occur. Let's let a building services professional help us without delay.

The 24 Center team wishes you all a happy and enjoyable skiing holiday!
