A professional on the spot, always and quickly

Autumn has arrived and with it the darkening evenings. Good lighting in your garden is not only beautiful, but also safe. Alli, whose infamous attempt to get an electrician to come to her house was reported in Iltalehti (21.10.2019).

Alli had contacted an electrician who promised to come and install the yard lighting in the autumn. Autumn came, the evenings darkened but the electrician did not turn up. Finding this attempt unsuccessful, Alli contacted another professional. He, too, promised to get the job done - but not until the following autumn. A year passed, the leaves fell again, but the yard remained dark. Alli says she has waited ten years to get an electrician to install the yard lights. The wait has been in vain.

The article describes this kind of problem as common, especially in southern Finland. One reason is the heavy workload of electricians and companies in the sector. Getting an electrician on site quickly also depends on the quality of the job on offer. Small jobs and installations are not high on the list of priorities for full-time professionals. The message to consumers is blunt: for small electrical installations, the only option is to wait. And that is often frustrating.

The article also describes the unfortunate side-effect of this kind of problem. When tradesmen are busy and smaller electrical jobs pile up undone, the electricians of a lifetime turn up - namely untrained tradesmen. The danger is that the work is done as it happens, but the billing is the same as for a professional. It is also against the law: in Finland, electrical installations can only be carried out by a professional with the appropriate permits.
